Dying Matters week runs from 13th - 19th May this year. The campaign raises awareness of the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement. These experiences can be difficult to talk about, but to prepare ourselves and our families for the inevitable, we need to talk.
The theme of this year's campaign is Are We Ready? and the aim is to ask ourselves are we ready for our own deaths, or the deaths of those we care about?
Discussing our wishes and our fears with family and with medical and other professionals makes it more likely that you will die where and how you wish, and that any wishes eg. organ donation or funerals requests etc will be taken into account.
Reluctance to discuss the end of life can also make people less likely to think about making a Will or a Lasting Power of Attorney until it’s too late. Making or reviewing your plans for the end of your life, and for the distribution of your assets after your death, are an important part of life.
We are supporting events organised by the local Live at Home schemes, in Pudsey on Monday 13th May, and in Horsforth on Wednesday 15th May. We look forward to seeing you there and to answering any questions you have.
